Olga V. Aleynikova is a pioneer of pediatric oncology and hematology in the Republic of Belarus, Professor, Doctor of Medical Science, corresponding member of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences, Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology.
Dr. Aleynikova was born on November 10th, 1951 in Leningrad in a family of government workers. In 1969 she graduated from the Minsk Middle Secondary 64. In 1971-1975 she studied in the Minsk State Medical Institute.
In 1975–1976 Dr. Aleynikova received internship training in pediatrics. In 1976 she started working as a pediatrician at the 1st Minsk Clinical Hospital, in 1978 she became a pediatrician-hematologist.
In 1986 she took a position as the Head of the Pediatric Hematology Department, and in 1992 she was appointed the Deputy Chief Doctor of pediatric oncohematology of the 1st Minsk Clinical Hospital and stayed in this position till June 1st, 1996.
Since June 2nd, 1996 Dr. Aleynikova has been the Director of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology. The Center applies all the latest advances in diagnostics and treatment of children with oncological and hematological diseases, and serves as an example of effective interactions between science and clinical practice. The topic of pediatric oncology and hematology became the cornerstone of Dr. Aleynikova’s scientific research. In 1989 she successfully defended her PhD dissertation Hormonal status, potassium levels in myelokaryocytes in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In December of 1999 Dr. Aleynikova defended her Doctor of Medical Science dissertation New technologies in treatment of acute leukemias in children at the Research Institute of Pediatric Hematology in Moscow. The dissertation was a result of many years of implementation of new effective methods of diagnostics and treatment of oncohematological diseases in children in Belarus and was of vital importance at the time considering the changing radiological and ecological situation. The dissertation received wide international attention and served as a basis for creation of modern treatment protocols in collaboration with the Moscow Research Institute of Pediatric Hematology and the N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center.
In 1998 Dr. Aleynikova received the highest qualification category as a pediatrician, and in 2001 the highest category in healthcare organization. In 1999 she was awarded the title of “Honored Worker of Healthcare of Belarus.”
Dr. Aleynikova has a vast teaching experience. In May of 2002 she became a professor of pediatric hematology at the Department of Clinical Hematology and Transfusiology at the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. In 2003 she received the academic title of Professor in the field of clinical medicine. And since October 2005 she has been heading the Department of Clinical Hematology and Transfusiology at the Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
In 2004–2011 Dr. Aleynikova was the Chairwoman of the Scientific Medical Board of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. Since 2006 she has been a member of the Expert Board of the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles for the specialization 14.0014 - Oncology (medical sciences). In 2009 Dr. Aleynikova was elected a corresponding member of the Belarus National Academy of Sciences.
Dr. Aleynikova is a member of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), European Society of Pediatric Hematology and Immunology (ESPHI), European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT).
In 1992 Dr. Aleynikova received the international Otto Hahn Award for her contribution to treatment of children who suffered from the Chernobyl disaster, in 1997 the Certificate of Merit from the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus for her active participation in the establishment of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology. The opening of the Center marked a new stage in the development of pediatric oncology and hematology. In 2004 Dr. Aleynikova was awarded the Golden Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria for developing oncological care for children, and in 2006 the Certificate of Merit of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for personal contribution to organization and development of pediatric oncology, hematology and transplantation care in the Republic of Belarus and major advances in treatment of malignant neoplasms in children.
In 2009 Dr. Aleynikova received the Medal for Impeccable Service for her personal contributions to organization and development of pediatric oncology, hematology and transplantation care, scientific research on new effective pediatric cancer treatments, major advances in treatment of malignant neoplasms in children. In 2011 Dr. Aleynikova was awarded The Certificate of the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus.
In 2008 the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology headed by Dr. Aleynikova received the award “For Spiritual Renewal” for selfless humanitarian work.
Dr. Aleynikova has been conducting scientific research in pediatric oncology and hematology for more than 30 years. She contributed to development and introduction of new technologies in the field of pediatric cancer which have increased children survival.
Some of the most significant results of Dr. Aleynikova’s professional life are creation of Belarusian school of pediatric oncology/hematology and development of populational registration system of in pediatric cancers integrated into an international network. She also organized a highly effective oncology and hematology care for children which allowed Belarus to achieve world-class results in treatment of malignant neoplasms in children.
Dr. Aleynikova supervised 12 PhD and 3 Doctor of Medical Science dissertations. She has published more than 400 scientific articles, 6 monographs and 3 patents.
Dr. Aleynikova is a member of editorial boards of several journals: scientific and practical journal of the Union o Pediatricians of Russia Hematology/Oncology and Immunology in Pediatrics, scientific and practical journal Oncohematology (Moscow), scientific and practical journal of evidence-based medicine Pediatric Oncology (Russian Academy of Medical Sciences), scientific and practical journal of the Belarusian Society of Oncologists Oncological Journal, and News of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
